Constitutional Facial Acupuncture

Constitutional Facial Acupuncture™ is a non-invasive treatment which draws upon the ancient Chinese wisdom related to longevity, beauty and balance. Constitutional facial acupuncture, also known as "constitutional facial rejuvenation," is a method of moderating the effects of aging through Chinese Medicine - including counseling, acupuncture, and topical herbal applications. Through this variety of modalities, the intention is to soften lines, tone your skin, and revitalize your face. Some clients will notice a diminishing of deep and fine lines, bags around the eyes, sagging skin and wrinkles.

Why "constitutional?"
As the face is a reflection of the overall health of your body, your constitution is treated as well as your face during each facial acupuncture session. The channels running through your body also extend to your head and face, thus points are selected on your arms and legs which will support the goals of treatment.

What is included in the treatment process?
This facial acupuncture treatment is similar to other acupuncture and Chinese medicine sessions. An initial evaluation takes into consideration lifestyle, stress, diet, genetic inheritance, proper digestion and elimination, sleep, emotional balance, and age. Treatment then begins with the removal of any makeup and skin care products. I place sterile, disposable acupuncture needles on the extremities (the “constitutional” portion) as well as the face. The points I choose are based on a multitude of factors including your treatment goals.

In addition to the acupuncture portion of the treatment, you will receive a customized Chinese facial massage with a jade roller which stimulates the connective tissue, calms & soothes, and stimulates the acupuncture points and meridians in the face. There is also application of various herbal compresses, masks, and lotions chosen for you based on our discussion regarding your history and goals. The result is a glowing complexion, improved facial color and tone, and a toning and tightening effect.

This treatment differs significantly from the mini-session offered on our menu previously.

How often are treatments necessary?
While it may take an initial 7-10 treatments (scheduled 1-2 weeks apart), to see lasting effects from your facial acupuncture regimen, you will likely feel the effects after your first session. To maintain the effects, I recommend subsequent monthly facial acupuncture treatments after the initial weekly set of 7-10. You may find that closer to 15-20 treatments are necessary if you are a smoker, or if you tend to have significant sagging.

It should be noted that age is not the most crucial factor; an older patient with a healthy lifestyle may in fact have a better prognosis than a younger person who is prone to dissipate themselves. I will take into consideration other variables such as stress, diet, lifestyle, genetic inheritance, proper digestion and elimination, sleep, emotional balance, and age to make recommendations as to the treatment frequency and duration that you may anticipate.
